June '25

Hello friends and yarn enjoyers, it's finally summer! I am finally done with school and am free to dive into a number of projects I am really excited about. I also am in a couple of shows currently, and in the near future. I will have "open studio" for the next 3 First Friday events in downtown Canton, so please visit at 318 Cleveland Ave NW Canton from 4-7PM this month. Also stop by the NEW 2nd April Gallery and New artists in my hallway. If you would like to visit another time, reach out and make an appointment!

First, I am so happy to have 2 of my favorite pieces; "Don't Tell Me" and "Over and Over" accepted into the Groundhog show. This show has been a favorite of our local area and is such a fun event. Check out the Groundhog Show Website for more information. Taylor Clapp does an amazing job every year bringing the show together, and this year they had to revamp a old building in downtown Akron. The show opens Friday June 6th from 7-10, and I will be there! I can't wait to see how it comes together.

Stephen Drake and I finally had our opening for "A Connecting Thread" at Gallery 202 in Cleveland's Gordon Square arts district. We worked really hard to make sure our pieces would connect and pick up a similar tone from Fiber to Fashion. I was so happy that the 3rd Friday at 78th st. studios went well, and I hope to see more people at this June "3rd Friday" where the show will close. Stephen D. was really great to work with, and I hope someday I can afford to buy a custom suit from him.

A preview of some things to come! I am working on some commissions this summer for residential and business clients. I have been making samples to do an "all neutral" weaving for a client for months now, and I finally got the right balance of the materials. They chose to work with wool and cut mulberry paper in the weft for a lot of texture. I hope they will be happy with it! Since I am already threading the loom, I decided to make a couple more pieces with cut paper in some different color schemes that I like to work with. The last photo are the hand dyed ribbons that were requested for a golf tournament that gives medals each year. I really like how the different green and gold shades came together.

Last but not least, some other adventures! I went on our school's 8th grade Washington DC Trip the week before school ended. I mostly have to make sure students don't run off, but it was cool seeing all the new things they had out in the museums. My favorite is always Gettysburg, because we get to see these old, asymmetrical American flags. Next I took a trip to the Great Lakes Fiber show, which is ironically at the Wayne County Fair in Wooster, OH. It was a great day filled with yarn shopping, talking about shuttles, and watching the angora rabbit judging. Finally I had a chance to see my (second?) favorite ceramic artist Kristen Cliffel who makes really amazing narrative work inspired by her life as a woman and mother. I had no idea this hammer was taller than me! It was so great to see her and talk about her pieces, and realize that I had been following her for at least 15 years.

Thank you for reading! I hope everyone has a safe and happy June!
