February Updates

Hello weaving fans! I am so busy this month already and it's only the 2nd. I have been working hard with my middle school students on the costumes for our school musical "Alice in Wonderland JR" and I also started my new semester teaching as adjunct faculty at Kent State in Art Education. So if you're keeping track, that's 1 full time job and 3 part time "fun hobbies"!

This week I have a couple of events coming up that you might want to attend. February 3rd from 6:30-8:30 PM is the opening of "Surface and Structure" (delayed from last month). This small exhibit of local artworks will enliven the front entrance of the Cable Recital Hall. I am happy to be included!

February 7th from 5ish to 8ish is my monthly Open Studio. My weaving studio is located on the second floor of 318 Cleveland Ave NW, accessible from the street or from the top level of Patina Art Gallery. This month's theme is "Let's Par-TEE" featuring miniature golf holes at several local businesses in the arts district.

I made some time last weekend to see two amazing shows that are Painting/Textile Hybrids. Hildur Jónsson is a KSU MFA From Iceland who creates work based on photographs she takes on her journeys home. She dyes warp and weft to create tapestries that are sometimes 10' in each direction. This show is on view at the Kent State University Museum, so you can check it out!

Jen P. Harris is a Cleveland artist who creates hybrid weaving/painting objects by layering a warp on top of a painted surface, and weaving to obscure parts of the painting. Their work is on view at Abattoir Gallery in Cleveland.

I am looking forward to the months ahead where I can re-focus and plan what to do this summer. I had planned for 2025 to be a "rest and incubation" period for my weaving, so we will see?

Thanks for reading!
