Eclipse

Eclipse
I got this one decent picture of the eclipse by taping the glasses to my phone camera.

I never thought the eclipse would be such a big deal! People from as far away as California came to Ohio to see family and witness a once in a lifetime event. I was lucky enough to go see it in my own front yard. Canton wasn't exactly in the "path of totality" but for a whole minute the street descended into a shadowy twilight.

Another sort of eclipse happened this week during the "Subtractia" show at Troppus Projects in Kent, Ohio. The show, curated by owner Kelly Detrick, aimed to show the different ways that artists show a transition, or a blocking out of space in their work. I was lucky to have my piece "Plaid Penumbra" featured in the show, and I was happy to be in the company of other amazing artworks. I purchased the small diorama sculpture "The Other Room" by Kent artist (and Jeopardy Champ) Kit Selensky. I didn't know when I entered the show that it would be the last one in the space. Kelly has decided to use this "eclipse" moment as a bookend for the brick and mortar space, and move on to other curatorial opportunities! I was so happy that I was able to join her for one last show because her patronage and mentorshio has meant so much to my artistic journey. My first "Solo" show was a pop up in the gallery in December 2020, after I made my first large framed work.

My first ever "pop up" show at Troppus Projects

My "eclipse" was finally opening up my new space in my building in downtown canton. I didn't get a lot of visitors because of the weather, but I feel so much better in the new space. It has lots of light and soon it will have new pieces on the walls.

My new studio space in downtown Canton

This month I'll be working on a client commission and start planning new work for the summer time when I can really get back to my weaving every day. I'll be having another open studio for the First Friday in May, and I hope to see new and old faces there! For now, here are some pictures of a ot of yarn I have been dyeing to try and figure out all the shades of hot pink I can create on silk and wool:

and then one final pic of me from my birthday trip to Cleveland Botanical Gardens where I got to hold a morpho butterfly

I got to hold a morpho butterfly at the Botanical Gardens in Cleveland. I am 39 as of April 10th!

See you next time, and enjoy the weather!
